Kitchen Transformation Spotlight: A Recent North Dakota Remodel by Blu Soul Design

Introduction

Every home has a heart, and for this Walhalla family, it was their kitchen. The space had good bones but felt dark, dated, and lacking in realtion to the amazing style in the rest of the home. My clients wanted to bring the light airiness and sophistated feel from the main room into the open kitchen. With a focus on maximum bang with minimal demo, we transformed this kitchen into a the amazing space we new it could be.

The Client’s Goals

When we first walked through the space, the goals were clear:

  • Brighten up the kitchen with lighter finishes.

  • Limit the amount of materials to be demolished..

  • Blend modern function with warm, welcoming style.

They wanted a modern kitchen that still felt timeless, cozy, and lived in.

The Design Approach

To achieve that vision, I focused on updating the cabinetry which really dated the entire space. Refinishing them in the same warm white we used to update all of their interior doors helped to reflect natural light while grounding the space. For countertops, we selected a durable quartz with a subtle moziac pattern—practical yet elegant.

Finishes were chosen to reduce waste and to bring touches of modern style:

  • I was able to extend down the backsplash to meet the new counter

  • A brushed nickle finish for the hardware and faucet to tie into the backsplash

  • Crown molding to elevate the space.

Every decision was intentional—creating a kitchen that looks beautiful and works seamlessly day-to-day.

The Kitchen Transformation

The difference is striking. Before, the kitchen felt cramped and dated; now, it’s airy, functional, and welcoming. By thinking smart and keeping the main elements I was able to create a completely new space that saved on both money and waste. Natural wood details softened the white cabinetry, creating depth and character.

The Result

The result is a kitchen that truly reflects the family’s lifestyle: bright, functional, and timeless. They now have a space where cooking feels effortless, gatherings feel natural, and every detail reflects their personality. In their words,

"We are extremely happy with the outcome and loved having Desiree in our home."
